WoW Forever Legacy System Guide: Points and Spectral Bear
How WoW Forever's account-wide Legacy System works: 65 challenges, points, perks, the Spectral Bear mount, Hardcore rules and what is still unannounced.
Pre-launch guide. Last checked: November 4, 2026. WoW Forever launches globally on November 4 at 3:00 p.m. PST, so nothing in this guide has been checked on live realms yet. It is based on Blizzard's September 23 Legacy System overview and on beta and BlizzCon coverage from Warcraft Tavern. Where the sources disagree or say nothing, we say so.
Legacy rewards leveling, crafting, PvP, dungeons and raids with points. Characters spend them on small perks, and your account total unlocks cosmetics, including the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount.
What is the Legacy System?
Blizzard describes Legacy as an account-wide, horizontal progression system that rewards exploring the game rather than raw power. It has three parts:
- Legacy Challenges award points.
- Legacy Perks are three talent-style trees where each character spends points.
- Legacy Rewards are toys and cosmetics unlocked by your account's point total.
Legacy Points are Battle.net account-wide and available to all of your non-Hardcore characters. Blizzard says playing alts is encouraged but not required, and that every character advantage can be unlocked on a single character.
You gain access when you earn your first point. For most players, that happens when their first character reaches level 25. You can also unlock it by reaching 150 in a non-gathering primary profession or by exploring the entire world map. Open the panel with the shield icon on the menu or the default Y key. (Blizzard)
How Legacy Challenges and points work
There are 65 Legacy Challenges in six categories, and each one completed earns one Legacy Point. This is Blizzard's breakdown:
| Category | Points | What counts |
|---|---|---|
| Classes | 27 | Reach level 25, 45 and 60 with each class |
| Tradeskills | 18 | Reach 150, 225 and 300 in each non-gathering primary profession |
| Player vs. Player | 12 | Ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 (5); Exalted with each battleground reputation (4); the week 4, 7 and 10 quests of the Field of Honor season journey (3) |
| Adventure | 2 | Explore the entire world map on one character; complete the Lord Valthalak dungeon set questline |
| Dungeons | 3 | Defeat the final boss of every level 15–25, 26–45 and 46–60 dungeon (one point per bracket) |
| Raids | 3 | Defeat Onyxia; defeat all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses; defeat all 8 Barrow Deeps bosses |
A few details matter for planning:
- Raid points wait until December 9. Blizzard says Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair unlock on December 9, so the three raid challenges cannot be completed before then.
- Which professions count. Warcraft Tavern's beta guide lists Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring. Gathering professions do not award tradeskill points.
- Battleground reputation counts once per battleground. According to the same guide, you get the point for whichever of that battleground's two factions you reach Exalted with first.
- PvP journey tasks carry over. Warcraft Tavern reports that each PvP season has weekly tasks, three of which grant a Legacy Point, and that these stay available in future seasons.
Legacy Perks: how each character spends points
Points are shared, but each character spends them independently in three trees: Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness. An alt can specialize in crafting while your main focuses on adventuring.
At launch, each character can spend up to 16 points. Blizzard says the cap keeps new players from falling too far behind and means you do not need alts to fill it. One character can earn up to 29 points on its own: 3 from leveling, up to 6 from tradeskills, 12 from PvP, 2 from Adventure and 6 from dungeons and raids.
Examples from Blizzard's list:
- Adventure: Well Rested (higher rested XP cap, faster build-up), Talented (talent points up to 5 levels earlier), Frequent Flier (cheaper, faster flights).
- Professions: Working Overtime (better skill-up chance), Bountiful Harvest (more Scarce resources), Bartering (lower vendor prices).
- Resourcefulness: Reinforce (less durability damage from death), For Great Honor (more Honor), Reagent Economy (no purchasable reagents for class abilities).
Warcraft Tavern notes that the beta hid two perks in each tree, so check the live trees before planning a build.
Legacy Rewards and the Spectral Bear mount
Separately from perks, your points accumulate across the account and unlock cosmetic rewards. Blizzard lists four at launch and plans new ones for each content update. Blizzard's post does not give point thresholds; the numbers below come from Warcraft Tavern's beta guide.
| Reward | Type | Points (beta, per Warcraft Tavern) |
|---|---|---|
| Replica Ironforge Air Rifle | Toy that stuns other players and keeps score | 15 |
| Spectral Bear Cub | Pet, exclusive to Legacy | 25 |
| Spectral Bear Tabard | Tabard, exclusive to Legacy | 40 |
| Reins of the Spectral Bear | Mount, exclusive to Legacy | 55 |
Warcraft Tavern says the track counts every point you earn, however you spend them, and that rewards are claimed from Innkeeper Wiley in Ratchet. Its earlier BlizzCon demo report listed the cub at 23 points, so treat all four numbers as unconfirmed until you see them in game. The same report describes the Reins as an epic mount with a 100% speed increase.
What 55 points means
If the 55-point threshold holds, the mount is a long-term goal rather than a launch-week one. Blizzard puts a single character's ceiling at 29 points, so the rest has to come from leveling other classes and training other crafting professions.
Hardcore and Legacy
Hardcore is not available at launch, and its release date is not announced yet. Blizzard has already set the Legacy rules for it:
- Challenges completed on non-Hardcore rulesets do not show up in Hardcore.
- A challenge earned in Hardcore is granted in all other rulesets.
- PvP Legacy Challenges cannot be completed in Hardcore, so Hardcore will launch with 12 Hardcore-specific challenges.
Warcraft Tavern reports the same one-way flow for Legacy rewards and collections.
What is not announced yet
- Final reward thresholds. Blizzard's post lists none.
- Level or riding requirements for the Spectral Bear mount.
- The start date of the first Field of Honor PvP season.
- The Hardcore release date and what its 12 challenges are.
- Whether the four launch rewards stay available after later updates. Warcraft Tavern calls them seasonal rewards; Blizzard has not said.
- What the next challenges, perks and rewards are. Blizzard plans more with each content release but has named none.
Where to start in launch week
- Level your first character to 25 to open the system, or take a crafting profession to 150.
- Spend your first points on perks that match how you play. Talented and Well Rested suit leveling; the Professions tree suits crafters.
- Choose professions with Legacy in mind: only non-gathering primary professions award tradeskill points.
- Use our WoW Forever leveling guide for questing and dungeon tips.
Classes are the largest Legacy category, so leveling matters. If you would rather not repeat every route yourself, HideBoost's WoW Forever services include a level boost with selectable ranges, a 1–60 leveling and mount bundle and the Hero Bundle. Blizzard prohibits buying in-game services for real money, and involved accounts may be penalized; review Blizzard's EULA before using any third-party service.
Frequently asked questions
Are Legacy Points account-wide in WoW Forever?
Yes. Blizzard says they are Battle.net account-wide and available to all non-Hardcore characters. Each character spends them separately, up to 16 at launch.
How many Legacy Points do you need for the Spectral Bear mount?
Blizzard has not published a number. Warcraft Tavern's beta guide lists 55 points; check the reward track in game after launch.
Do I have to level alts for Legacy?
Not for perks: one character can earn up to 29 points, more than the 16-point spending cap. The cosmetic track is different. By Blizzard's numbers, 55 points is more than one character can earn.
Do Legacy Points carry over to Hardcore?
No. Progress from other rulesets does not carry into Hardcore, but challenges earned in Hardcore are granted on the other rulesets.
